Scholarship Opportunities

If you have a strong academic record or a special talent, you may qualify for a scholarship to defray your college costs. Unlike loans, scholarships do not need to be paid back. They are typically awarded on the basis of achievement or merit rather than need.

Scholarships are available from a number of sources, including KCTCS, state governments, and private funders. In addition to the options listed below, you may also want to explore scholarship sources offered by your local community or through the Web.

Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship (KEES)

This state program awards scholarship to Kentucky students who earn a 2.5 GPA or higher in high school. [More]

KCTCS President's Scholarship

The President’s Scholarship goes to students in each of the KCTCS colleges who have outstanding academic performance and unmet financial need. For more information, contact the college you plan to attend.

KCTCS John T. Smith Scholarship

The John T. Smith Scholarship Application must be submitted to the KCTCS college where you will attend. Contact the college where you will attend for the John T. Smith Scholarship Application and specific scholarship requirements.

KCTCS Commonwealth Scholarship

Kentucky residents who are valedictorians, salutatorians or members of the upper 10 percent of their high school graduating class are eligible for this award. [More]

State-Mandated Scholarships

KCTCS offers automatic scholarships to faculty and staff, the elderly, dependents of deceased Kentucky firefighters and veterans, and other groups. [More]
