School Counts!
Beginning with the class of 2008, all participating students attending Dawson Springs, Hopkins County Central, or Madisonville North Hopkins High Schools who graduate from high school and earn four consecutive School Counts program certificates will receive up to $1000 per semester for four semesters for tuition to Madisonville Community College. This support will be for students who do not qualify for other types of scholarships or financial aid. It will be used in combination with available KEES money.
The three public high schools in the county, approximately 301 businesses who have signed on to promote School Counts!, and the college are all working on the program. The citizens of Hopkins County are willing to continue to give to this project over time to ensure its sustainability. The college is committed to raise any funds beyond the $1.5 million needed to secure the future scholarships.
The criteria a student must meet before earning a School Counts certificate are as follows:
- Obtain a 2.5 GPA yearly
- Achieved a 95% attendance and punctuality record
- Completed high school in eight consecutive semesters
- Taken more than the minimum number of credits required for graduation
Enrollment in the School Counts! program is required at the beginning of the freshman year. Transfer students from outside the county will have their eligibility evaluated according to established criteria.
