KCTCS President Michael B. McCall to Speak at Madisonville Community College Commencement on
May 9
Madisonville, KY – Madisonville Community College will hold commencement exercises on Friday, May 9, at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in the Glema Mahr Center for the Arts. Over 225 graduates are expected to participate in one of the two ceremonies. During the actual ceremonies, an outstanding student and an outstanding faculty member will be recognized.
Dr. Michael B. McCall., President of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System will be the commencement speaker. Dr. McCall received his bachelor's degree in physics and mathematics from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington; his master's in physics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, VA; and his doctorate in educational administration from VPI.
As founding President and Chief Executive Officer of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System, Dr. Michael B. McCall oversees a system that has an annual operating budget of approximately $665 million and an additional $228 million capital construction projects to operate a seamless complex system of 16 colleges with over 65 campuses touching the lives of more than 300,000 citizens.
Under the leadership of President McCall, KCTCS is committed to serving as the major gateway to postsecondary education for all Kentuckians. Since his appointment in December, 1998, Dr. McCall has achieved many successes, such as:
- Rapidly expanding the number of academic and technical programs that KCTCS colleges offer to students. Since 1998, the KCTCS Board of Regents has ratified or approved more than 2,765 new programs and program options that result in certificates, diplomas or associate degrees.
- Expanding services to employers by providing an array of workforce training opportunities, including some of the nation's most innovative approaches to information technology. This has helped to reinforce sound workforce practices among Kentucky’s current and future workforce.
Dr. McCall has served for over 37 years in community and technical colleges. He has been recognized for his advanced collaborative partnerships, economic development, innovative use of technology, and the utilization of team-oriented management. In 2004, Dr. McCall was named Kentuckian of the Year by Kentucky Monthly Magazine.
Madisonville Community College serves over 4,000 students at its four campus locations in Hopkins and Muhlenberg Counties. MCC is recognized as a leader among KCTCS colleges in developing effective associate degree programs, arts programming opportunities, counseling and advising services that are nationally recognized, and creating the KCTCS system’s first workforce development office in 1985.
