MCC Celebrates Black History Month
MADISONVILLE, Ky.— In celebration of Black History Month the following events are scheduled at Madisonville Community College during the month of February. All events are free and open to the community.
Tuesday, February 5: Multicultural Potluck, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., Glema Mahr Center for the Arts Stage
The 7th annual Multicultural Potluck is hosted by the MCC Diversity Committee. All MCC faculty, staff, students, and community members are invited to participate. Sample various ethnic dishes and enjoy the music of the Ron Jones Quartet, a jazz quartet from Louisville.
Tuesday, February 12: Day Voices, 12:15-1 p.m., MCC North Campus Student Center, John H. Gray Building, First Floor
The annual Day Voices program will feature a noonday performance of literature and poetry readings by MCC faculty, staff, and students. Special guest, Tay Williams, will present a dramatization entitled the “Black Experience Story.”
Tuesday, February 12: Evening Voices, 6:30 p.m., MCC North Campus Student Center, John H. Gray Building, First Floor
Join faculty, staff, and students at Evening Voices for coffee, hot chocolate, and light desserts served café style. Listen to the winning authors of the Stanley Lewis Writing Contest recite their works. Enjoy the evening’s special entertainment including an appearance from Tay Williams and a presentation by Stacey Bernaugh of Greenhouse Poetry who was featured at last year’s Evening Voices. Music will be provided by the Eastview Baptist Church choir.
Wednesday, February 20: Poetry Readings, 12:15-1 p.m., Muhlenberg County Campus
The Multicultural Student Association will host Stacy Bernaugh of Greenhouse Poetry, Inc. on the Muhlenberg County Campus during a lunchtime poetry recital.
