College Goal Sunday Provides Free Help
With Financial Aid Application
MADISONVILLE, Ky.— College Goal Sunday is a state-wide charitable event providing free information and assistance to families applying for college financial aid.
College Goal Sunday will take place locally 2 p.m., Sunday, January 27, 2008 in the Byrnes Auditorium at Madisonville Community College Health Campus, 750 North Laffoon Street (adjacent to Trover Clinic).
Professionals from Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA) and MCC Financial Aid office will provide free assistance to students and families completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students must complete the FAFSA to be considered for any type of financial aid—including student loans, work-study, grants, or scholarships.
Students are encouraged to attend College Goal Sunday with their parent(s) or guardian(s). Students should bring a completed copy of their 2007 IRS 1040 tax return and any other 2007 income and benefits information, including their parents’ tax returns. If families haven’t completed their taxes, financial aid professionals will be able to help fill out the rest of the FAFSA form and give instructions on the financial portion.
Tuition at MCC is affordable and financial aid is available to those who qualify. MCC offers a variety of federal, state, and local financial aid, including Pell, CAP, and SEOG grants, KEES (Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarships), loans, work study, and other scholarships. MCC awarded over $8 million in financial aid and scholarships to students in the 2007-2008 academic year.
