MCC Nominated for Bellwether Award

MCC NOMINATED FOR BELLWETHER AWARD

Madisonville Community College recently received notification from a Community College Futures Assembly representative that the college has been selected as one of the ten National Finalists for the Bellwether Award in the area of Workforce Development.  The selection was based on MCC’s Advanced Integrated Technology/Workforce Solutions initiative designed to create a better prepared workforce addressing the needs of high school graduates and incumbent workers. As a finalist, college representatives will present at the 2014 Community College Futures Assembly in Orlando, FL on January 25-28.  Each of the ten finalists will be recognized with one winner announced.

“We are thrilled to be recognized for the tremendous work that has gone into creating this avenue for degree attainment and incumbent worker training.  It is unique in higher education that one program can meet both needs.  We are gratified that the Community College Futures Assembly has recognized this accomplishment by including us in the finalist competition,” stated MCC Chief Academic Affairs Officer Dr. Deborah Cox.

The Bellwether Awards are an integral part of the Community College Futures Assembly, established in 1995.  The Assembly is sponsored by the Institute of Higher Education at the University of Florida and focuses on cutting-edge, trendsetting programs that other colleges might find worthy of replicating.  The Bellwether Awards are given annually to colleges with outstanding and innovative programs or practices in the three categories of Instructional Programs & Services, Planning, Governance & Finance, and Workforce Development.  It is competitively judged and is awarded by peers in community colleges.
