LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 3, 2013) – North American Racing Academy graduate Aparna Das Battula has been selected to compete in the second running of the Prix Longines Future Racing Stars race on Sunday June 16th at the historic Chantilly racecourse in France.

The 1800 meter (1-1/8 miles) race will take place during one of the most prestigious dates on the European racing calendar, the Prix de Diane Longines (the French Oaks). This year the Future Racing Stars challenge takes on an international dimension. Fourteen young, talented apprentice jockeys from 8 countries – Australia, Great Britain, France, Japan, Germany, Italy, South Africa and the United States will meet for the first time on the race track in front of an audience of 40,000 spectators hoping to gain victory and claim the winner’s trophy.

Battula, who began her riding career in 2011, currently rides with a five pound apprentice allowance at Indiana Downs and has accumulated at career record of 23 wins; 20 seconds and 20 third place finishes from 262 mounts. Born in Khotakota, India the 25 year old Battula earned a university degree in Biotechnology before enrolling at Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) to attend the North American Racing Academy (NARA) where she learned to ride races while earning an associate’s degree in Equine Science.
Said Battula: "I am thrilled to have been selected as the representative of both the U.S. and BCTC-NARA which has played such an integral part of my growth and development as a jockey.
My sincere thanks also go to the race organizers and Longines for providing me this once in a lifetime international riding opportunity.”

The objective of this race is to promote future rising stars on the racecourse and their national racing schools. All participating jockeys are between 18 and 25 years of age and have won between 3 and 35 races.

Battula will have a top coach. Joining her on the trip will be non-other than Hall of Fame Jockey Chris McCarron who serves as NARA’s Jockey Pathway Lead Instructor. McCarron noted: “I am ecstatic that one our graduates has been invited to compete in this event. Aparna was an excellent student while attending NARA/BCTC and has represented us in a very professional and successful manner. I’m so proud of her and I’m confident she will demonstrate the same professionalism and dedication that has brought her this far.”

The day will mark the 164th running of the Prix de Diane Longines - an event where elegance, glamour and first class racing are de rigueur as will be the world’s top three-year-old fillies.

Simon Baker, a Longines ambassador and actor from the series The Mentalist, will once again be present for the event and will award the prize to the most elegantly dressed Mademoiselle of the day.
