In honor of Black History Month, MCC's English Department, Library and the Library staff are hosting an African American Read-In on Feb. 27 from 12:15-1:00 in the Loman C. Trover Library. All are welcome to attend, and light refreshments will be served.
Participants can come and read a favorite passage from a book, a poem, a part of a speech, or anything written by an African American author or participants can just come listen to others read passages from favorite African American authors. This is part of a nation-wide event. All across the nation, people are hosting African-American Read-Ins to celebrate Black History Month and to encourage literacy. The Read-In has been endorsed by the International Reading Association. Over a million readers of all ethnic groups from the United States, the District of Columbia, the West Indies, African countries, and more have participated. The goal is to make the celebration of African American literacy a traditional part of Black History Month activities.
