After you complete the Medicaid Nurse Aide program, you can take the state competency exam offered in the Hatley Building at the MCC Health Campus. On the day of the test signs will direct you to the waiting area for the exam.
- Testing starts at 8 a.m. Late arrivals will not be admitted and will have to reschedule their exam. The test length is determined by the number of students scheduled and the length of the skills required that day. We attempt to have everyone finished by 1 p.m.
- You must bring your social security card in good condition with no lamination or tape. You must also bring your driver’s license or military ID and the name must match the name on your social security card. No birth certificates or paperwork from the Social Security Office can be accepted. If you arrive for the exam and do not have the required documentation, you will not be tested.
- The cost of testing is $75.00 and must be paid by money order only.
- The exam consists of 75 multiple choice questions and a skills test with five of the skills in your procedure manual. Any procedure in that manual can be on the exam.
- All cell phones or pagers must be put away and turned off for the exam and the waiting period between exams.
- Exams are graded in Versailles and the test administrator cannot give you any exam results. You will receive results within 30 days.
- You will get your results and will be issued a registry number, which you should keep in your records. You or your employer can check your status on the registry with this registry number. Notify the state registry if you change your address or name. Your contact information must be up-to-date so they can notify you when your registry status needs to be renewed.
- To keep your registry status active, you must work at least one eight-hour day in a two year period. Clinical experience does not count toward this requirement. If you allow your registry status to expire, you will have to take the nurse aide class again and test again.
- Let us know in advance of the exam date if you need to cancel or re-schedule.
- You have only one year from the last day of your class to take the exam. If you go past that date, you cannot take the exam.
- It is best that you complete your course before making an exam appointment. Your grades must be posted before you will be allowed to take the exam.
- If you owe any money to a KCTCS college, then you cannot test until your bill is paid.
