Program Description
The AIIT program, with its two options, involves the integration of a variety of subject matter from multiple technical disciplines in order to train people for a diverse set of skills as needed in today's "high-tech" industrial and healthcare settings. Upon completion of either option, the student will be able to install, manage, maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, test, and inspect modern-day equipment and systems having a technologically diverse design.
Available Credentials
Articulation agreements with regional and in-state universities accommodate those students wishing to apply their credit hours awarded in the AIIT program towards a Bachelor's degree.

Program Competencies
Multi-Skilled Industrial Technician
Upon completion of this program, the graduate can:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the generation and distribution of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic power systems.
- Perform equipment system installations, including electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical.
- Use various measuring instruments to ensure proper operation of electrical and electronic sensors, pressure and control, process control, and loop controllers.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the integrated application of basic electrical and fluid power controls.
- Use integrated industrial controls, including variable frequency drives, SCR speed controls, proximity sensors, hydraulic synchronization circuits, multi-pressure control, and pneumatic logic circuits.
- Comply with standard industry and OSHA safety practices and regulations.
- Demonstrate an understanding of maintenance techniques and procedures used in maintaining integrated industrial equipment, including mechanical drives, seals, lubrication techniques, and troubleshooting.
- Demonstrate basic skills in computer operations and/or software applications.
- Utilize programmable logic controllers, using appropriate logic, to operate and monitor various integrated industrial systems.
- Apply basic welding skills, using SMAW, MIG, Oxy-Fuel, and TIG.
- Apply self-correcting systems concepts, including integrated quality control.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of refrigeration principles and techniques, including environmental impacts.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of basic machine tool principals, including safety, drill presses, and mills.
- Apply the principles of rotating electrical equipment, including motors, generator, operating applications, and maintenance.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of advanced maintenance techniques, including brakes, clutches, machine vibration and vibration analysis, electro-hydraulics, and laser alignment.
Medical Equipment & Instrumentation
Upon completion of this program, the graduate can:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the generation and distribution of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic power systems.
- Perform equipment system installations, including electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the integrated application of basic electrical and fluid power controls.
- Determine the role of the Biomedical Equipment Technician with regards to a hospital safety program.
- Evaluate the performance of medical equipment using simulators and analyzers.
- Manage and maintain medical equipment through record keeping techniques.
- Interpret and utilize medical terminology both verbally and in written form.
- Develop techniques and strategies which promote a safe work environment.
- Analyze circuitry used to detect, process, display, and record biophysical signals and quantities.
- Demonstrate valid fault analysis techniques when performing corrective maintenance.
- Interpret the meaning and significance of equipment specifications.
- Predict potential sources of error based upon equipment design and usage.
- Demonstrate appropriate preventive maintenance techniques.
- Differentiate between error that is operator induced and error resulting from an equipment malfunction.
- Correlate schematic drawings and diagrams with actual equipment being examined.
- Demonstrate basic skills in computer operations and/or software applications.
Employment Opportunities
Multi-Skilled Industrial Technician
A student who completes the Multi-Skilled Industrial Technician option will have a diverse set of skills and knowledge needed to allow them to obtain employment in various settings including those within the manufacturing and industrial sectors. Such graduates will be able to perform a variety of multidisciplinary tasks traditionally performed by a number of field-specific technicians thus providing a cost effective and highly sought alternative for employers.
Medical Equipment & Instrumentation
A student who completes the Medical Equipment & Instrumentation option can obtain employment as a Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) in a number of employment settings including: hospitals, clinics, medical universities, home medical equipment companies, equipment manufacturers, and contract service providers. Most BMETs obtain employment in hospital settings and work closely with physicians, nurses, scientists, healthcare technicians and administrators to assure the safe and effective use of sophisticated electronic medical technology utilized for all aspects of patent care.
Admission Requirements:
The following should be submitted to the Office of Admissions for admission to this program:
- Application for admission
(263 K) - High School transcript or GED
- ACT, COMPASS, or ASSET scores
- Transcripts of all previous college work
- Age verification (must be 16 years of age)
Length of Program
Within two years of starting the program. Due to the flexible on-site scheduling of laboratory course work and online delivery of instructional course work that will take place, the time it takes a student to complete the degree requirements will vary among students.
